Gay marriage is already illegal in Nigeria but the senate has just received a proposal for a bill which will consider gay marriage as a crime, and crime means sanction.
Thus any person who "witnesses, abets and aids the solemnization of a same gender marriage contract" will have penalties.
Starting from July 25th, 2011, a gay marriage would be equivalent to 3 years of prison.
A bill of the same kind, but more draconian as it wanted to ban the formation of any LGBT clubs and proposed a five-year prison sentence, had already been presented in 2006 but fortunately, it had not passed, let's hope that it will be the same for this one.
