New Memorial For Holocaust Gay And Lesbian Victims In Munich

Written by

Munich decided to build a new memorial devoted to gay and lesbian victims of the holocaust.

The Nazis raided gay bars at the beginning of the third reich and it is where these gay bars were that the new memorial will be built, at the crossroads of Oberanger and Dultstrasse.

We estimates at more than 50,000, the number of gays and lesbians arrested. It is of course only an estimation, we will never know how much were actually arrested.

Moreover, these people, contrary to straights, were not entirely free at the exit of concentration camps because homosexuality in Germany was a crime until 1969, so these people passed from the concentration camps to the prison.

After the memorial of Dachau in 1995 with a plate representing a pink triangle,

then a memorial built in Berlin in 2008,

there will be another memorial in the city of Munich.
