Maryland will become the 8th state to legalize gay marriage as the Senate has just approved the bill.
The senate passed the law 25-22 and it needs nothing any more but the signature of Governor Martin O' Malley who already said than he would sign it. Last year, Governer O'Malley had decided the legislation will be one of his priorities.
"This has been a difficult issue for many people," Governor O'Malley said. "But as one Maryland we came together around the principal of human dignity. … It does feel good to have this issue resolved."
As usual, opponents already say they will try to overturn the law as Senate Republican leader E.J. Pipkin who said after the Senates' vote: "There will be a robust referendum effort."
