Until now, Republican candidates did not employ the expression 'gay marriage' to keep the votes of certain republicans in favor of equality marriage. They were all advocating about the "traditional" marriage. For the first time, Mitt Romney openly refers to gay marriage to have some social voters.
During a speech in South Carolina, Romney said, while speaking about President Obama, : "This is a president also who is attempting to pave the way for same-sex marriage in our nation by refusing through his attorney general to defend the Defense of Marriage Act. I will defend that Act and I will also defend marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman."
