House Veterans and Military Affairs Committee of Oklahoma has decided to not hear a bill that would have reintroduced the "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" policy for the National Guard.
According to Red Dirt Report, State Rep. Paul Wesselhoft said House Speaker Kris Steele was involved in the decision, with Wesselhoft saying Steele wanted the weekend "to think and pray about it." It was then decided on Monday that the House Veterans and Military Affairs Committee would not hear it after all.
Beyond wanting a total equality, it is a funding and security issue. With this bill, Oklahoma could lost federal funding for the National Guard and if a disaster happens, guard members might not be available to help.
