Republican Donors Fund Gay Marriage

 donation gay marriage

Whereas a major part of the Republicans oppose marriage equality, their principal donors, who have given millions to Mitt Romney for his campaign, are also fervent supporters of gay marriage.

Paul E. Singer, whose son is gay, has indeed given $1 million this year to the organization Freddom to Marry which currently works on the November referendums on gay marriage in Maine, Minnesota and Washington. He had given around $10 million to push gay marriage in New York.

He has also given $1 million to another organization, a republican one, American Unity PAC, which support candidates for the congress in favour of marriage equality.

Singer is not the only republican donor to do this kind of thing.

According to The Washington Post, both groups (Freedom to Marry and PAC) have received major donations from at least three other Republican hedge fund managers: Cliff Asness of AQR Capital Management, Seth Klarman of Baupost Group and Dan Loeb of Third Point, according to records and officials.

Of course, Republicans are not the only donors. Democrats also give money like Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes and his husband, Sean Eldridge.
