A Young Chinese Woman Used Her Graduation Ceremony To Come Out And To Launch A National Debate On LGBT Rights

More and more young Chinese demand the legalization of equal marriage. A few months ago, we had talked about the courageous step of Li Tingting, and today we learn that a 22-year-old student has come out during her graduation ceremony, calling on the government to equality.

It is draped with a rainbow flag that Wan Qing took the stage to receive her diploma she obtained after studies at the Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou.

This might seem almost an innocuous approach, one might think that there is little chance that this has an impact, but it is quite the opposite.

Indeed, the coming out of Wan Qing was relayed on many Chinese media as the Weibo, a popular Chinese microblogging platform, where over 740,000 views were recorded for Wan Qing's thread run on her coming out.

When you know it is very difficult for LGBT groups to be heard in China, Wan Qing performed a brilliant feat!

And Wan Qing is not going to stop there since she plans to launch a studio to make videos and visual arts to promote gay rights she told Quartz.
