In Argentina, all hormonal treatments and surgical sex reassignment operations are now free for trangender people.

Indeed, the Ministry of Health recently decided to apply the gender identity act, which was passed in 2012, which «means that surgeries, but also hormonal treatments that enable the body to correspond to the self-perceived identity, are part of care scheme. They will be covered by insurance companies, public hospitals and private clinics,» said Esteban Paulon of the Federación Argentina LGBT (FALGBT) to AFP.

Until now, insurance companies did not apply the law because there were not sufficiently clear regulations.

The change of gender on ID papers can be made without difficulty too.
