Ghana: New President Nana Akufo-Addo won't legalize marriage equality

Written by

Nana Akufo Addo

The new president of Ghana assured that his government would not legalize same-sex marriage.

Unfortunately, Nana Akufo-Addo is no better than his predecessor well-known for his anti-LGBT views.

A few weeks ago, the new President of Ghana spoke on marriage equality at a religious rally and said: "I want to assure you that this government doesn't intend to change the marriage equality law. We have no authority and we won't ask for any authority to do so."

Nana Akufo-Addo said in a 2017 interview with Al Jazeera that the legalization of homosexuality in Ghana was “bound to happen”.

President Akufo-Addo thus closes the door on any possibility of opening the marriage for same-sex couples in Ghana.
