Identity Cards Mentioning Same-Sex Parents Are Finally Issued In Israel

Written by

That's it, Israel began to issue identity cards to children with same-sex parents on which one can see the two fathers or two mothers and not just "father" and "mother."

The adoption by same-sex couples has been possible since 2006, but nevertheless remained the issue of identity cards that didn't reflect the diversity of families yet.

This is now a problem solved by a petition which was sent to the Ministry of Interior.

Recently, the Knesset, the legislature of Israel, approved in a first reading the bill that would allow surrogacy while the bill for civil marriage equality was rejected last December.

“This bill is about the principle of equality, regardless of one’s sexual orientation or the composition of the family unit,” said Health Minister Yael German, who first submitted the bill in January, as reports The Jewish News.

“Everyone has the right to become a parent.”
