India Supreme Court Recognizes A Third Gender

Written by

The supreme court of India has just recognized a third gender! It is really an excellent news for all the transgenders!

Until now, any person was to be registered as a man or a woman but finally the supreme court of India decided to recognize a third gender which gives the opportunity to the transgender people of being able to change their gender on their official document without having to notch the box «man» or «woman».

Moreover, this law applies to any person because a gender reassignment surgery is not necessary.

With this decision, India joined the list of the countries recognizing a third gender which are still very few.

Unfortunately, this law does not remove discrimination sudden by trans* people in India which is extremely difficult.

I acknowledge that I have a little difficulty to understand the supreme court of India. It recognizes a third gender while criminalizing homosexuality again.
