Jimmy Morales, Who Could Be The New President Of Guatemala, Clearly Displays His Opposition To Equal Marriage

Written by

Jimmy Morales

Guatemala is in the process of electing democratically a new president this time after several political crises linked to corruption. But, Jimmy Morales, who is now the winner of this election, even though it has yet to be a second round, already strongly opposed to LGBT rights.

In an interview with El Pais, Morales shared his project for Guatemala. Asked about the equal marriage, this is what he said:

«In the case of same-sex marriage, rejection because they believe in it and because in Guatemala, 97% of the population have a Christian ethical thought.»

We will see how things develop. Still too early to know what impact these elections will have on the LGBT community in Guatemala.
