Madhu Kinnar Became The First Trans* Woman To Be Elected Mayor In India

Written by

Madhu Kinnar

This is a first in India where a transgender person was elected mayor!

A few days ago, Madhu Kinnar became the new mayor of Raigarh with no less than 4,357 votes in her favor.

“It was the public support that encouraged me to enter the poll fray for the first time and because of their support only, I emerged as the winner,” she said.

“People have shown faith in me. I consider this win as love and blessings of people for me. I’ll put in my best efforts to accomplish their dreams.”

This is a magnificent victory when we know that India has recently recriminalized same-sex relationships.
