Marriage Equality Was Not Legalized In Colombia

Whereas Uruguay recently passed marriage equality, another country of South America, Colombia, did not approve the law.

 

We could have imagined that after having adopted civil unions in 2011, Colombia would have also legalized marriage equality but it is by a very largely vote (51-17) that senators opposed the bill allowing same-sex couples to marry under the pressure of the extremely influential Catholic church.
