Mexico's Area Oaxaca To Allow Same-Sex Couples To Marry

Written by

A new area of Mexico will allow the same-sex couples to marry.

Indeed, more and more areas allow unions between same-sex couples thanks to judges' rulings.

In January, we had learned with joy the decision from a judge who allowed a lesbian couple to marry in Jalisco. In February, the Supreme Court of Mexico ruled equal benefits for same-sex couples.

The Civil code of Oaxaca does not allow marriage equality but, following the ruling of the Supreme court of Mexico, the director of the Civil Registry of Oaxaca, Clarivel Creek, thus made the decision to allow same-sex couples to marry.

"The moment has arrived for modernizing our laws and our institutions to the new terms and conditions," he said.

He also added that he would not stop there since he hopes that the unions be legally recognized in Oaxaca.
