Only One Gay Couple Applied For Adoption In Mexico City

Written by

Mexico City passed the law which allow adoption by gay and lesbian couples, however nobody adopts.

Since the law passed there is one year ago, only one couple made a request of adoption.

It is true that part of the Mexican population is completely opposed to adoption by gay parents and for evidence, a National Survey on Discrimination, ENADIS, conducted in late 2010, shows that 80% of people of + 50 years old are opposite.

But this opposition decreases with the age and it is practically always the case in the world where the younger population is more opened.

So the study showed 70% of the adults from 30 to 49 years old are opposed to adoption whereas only 23.3% of young people between 12 and 17 years old are opposed to it.
