Puerto Rico Appoints An Openly Lesbian Chief Justice Of State Supreme Court

Written by

Maite Oronoz Rodriguez

The government of Puerto Rico has nominated Maite Oronoz Rodriguez, openly lesbian, as chief justice of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico.

"I believe it’s time to take off our robes, come down from the bench and welcome with open arms a citizenship that demands human justice," Oronoz Rodriguez said in an interview with El Nuevo Dia. "It’s only then that will begin to rebuild the trust merited by a majority of our judges worthy of our justice system."

It is with this kind of appointment that the community's visibility, but especially attitudes, change. Congratulations to her!
