South Africa Elected First Openly Gay Cabinet Minister And Deputy

Written by

Lynne-BrownZakhele Mbhele

I like to hear about Africa which advances and today, for the first time, there are an openly lesbian cabinet minister and an openly gay deputy in South Africa and on the African continent.

Lynne Brown, 52, became the public enterprises minister in a cabinet after having been premier of Western Cape until 2009.

Zakhele Mbhele, 29, as for him, became the first gay black deputy by joining the Parliament of South Africa.

One can only be delighted by these good news for this country where the hate crimes are too numerous even if the discrimination based on the sexual orientation is prohibited in the constitution.
