Victory : Ecuadorian Lesbian Torture Clinics To Be Removed

Written by

It is such a great victory for Ecuadorian lesbians! You remember a few months ago, one discovered the horror: centers of torture for lesbians. In the same time, some petitions were launched on Change.org and AllOut.org that we had relayed on Lezbelib. With these petitions, Paula Ziritti and a group of women Fundacion Causana fought to push the government to hear testimonies of these women who, like Paula, had sudden inhuman treatments. Finally the government will do something.

Finally! If it represents only a few months for us, for them, it represents more than 10 years!

The government met the group and from now on works with it to release all the women who are still imprisoned, to definitively close all these private clinics.

And that's not all! One of these militant, Carina Vance Mafla, is now the new Ecuadorian Health ministry.

It would even seem that a campaign against homophobia could be launched in all the country.

As reminds Change.org, sometimes, it takes a decade of fearless commitment before starting a petition on Change.org tips the balance. Sometimes, a movement is sparked by one person starting a petition. But almost everyday now, there’s a victory.

"After ten years of outcry, the nation of Ecuador -- through the Ministry of Public Health -- has entered into a commitment with civic organizations, and society in general, to deconstruct the belief that homosexuality is an illness and root out the use of torture in these clinics. We extend our thanks to all the men and women who signed our petition -- it's been an invaluable support in starting to change this reality," Fundacion Causana says.

Congratulation to all these women!
