The writing and sharing of our stories is more important than ever. Nearly 50 years after Stonewall, it’s impossible not to see how far we’ve come, and, yet, how much work remains.
We need our writers, our visionaries, to bring insight, truth, and joy into the world.
Several incredible donors — Chuck Forester, Catherine Hyde, Poets for the Planet, and The Rainbow Pineapple Foundation — believe so deeply in Lambda Literary's mission that they will match your contributions if you give right now. Please heed this call and turn their $20,000 pledge into $40,000 that will support all of our programs for LGBTQ writers.
Create Safe Spaces for LGBTQ Youth
In 2018, we doubled the size of our LGBTQ Writers in Schools program, bringing queer books and their authors to over 2,000 students. Inside these supportive environments, students talk about books, queer life, and finding acceptance.
Nurture the Future of Queer Literature
Our Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBTQ Voices is the only residency in the world exclusively for up-and-coming queer writers. This year, 60 fellows participated in a full week of workshops, performances, and discussions.
Honor Excellence in LGBTQ Books
No other LGBTQ literary celebration brings as much visibility and glamour to queer literature than the annual Lambda Literary Awards. Since 1989, Lambda Literary has brought hundreds of LGBTQ authors the accolades we deserve. In 2018, Roxane Gay and Edmund White joined winners in over 20 categories.
Increase Visibility for LGBTQ Books
The Lambda Literary Review showcases hundreds of our community’s most exciting voices every year, including John Boyne, Alan Hollinghurst, Carmen Maria Machado, Gabby Rivera, and Ocean Vuong.
Build Literary Community
Now in its second year, Lambda LitFest is a vital part of the Southern California literary calendar, with readings and conversations from Jewelle Gomez, Patrisse Cullors, Terry Wolverton, Felice Picano, Ryka Aoki, and hundreds more.
