Anti-Gay Law Rejected By Lithuania's Parliament

Written by

Several months ago, five anti-LGBT laws had been submitted for a vote to the Parliament. Finally, the other day, with a surprise, the Parliament rejected the anti "gay propaganda" law.

The Lithuanian Parliament rejected the law (39-34 with 20 abstentions) which would have imposed a fine for "contempt of moral values" and which would have blocked Gay Pride parades.

It would seem that certain conservatives decided not to support the bill.

It is a first relief even if there still remain four other laws as the one which would prohibit marriage equality and adoption by same-sex couples and finally, another law which would legalize the speeches of hatred, and another one asking Gay Prides' organizers to pay a fine.

All these laws should pass to the vote in the next weeks.
