Finland Parliament's Committee Rejects Marriage Equality

Written by

In Finland, an effort to legalize marriage equality by describing marriage as gender neutral unfortunately failed.

This bill was introduced to the Finnish parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee which rejected it by a 9-8 vote.

Since 2009, gay and lesbian couples can legally register their unions but that does not give the same rights as marriage.

But all is not lost yet since the defenders of marriage equality will try to collect the 50.000 signatures necessary to introduced the bill directly to the Parliament.
