French Education Minister Wants To Fight Against Bullying

Written by

In France, the Education Minister, Luc Chatel, has decided to fight against harassing, and in particular the homophobe harassing of youth in schools.

"We will give concrete answers, by improving the formation of our teachers, by preparing the education system which is not ready to deal with this, by sensitizing the parents, by setting up a call number, like this when a child has been bullied, his/her parents can intervene and find someone to talk with," he said.

It is true that, in France, nobody speaks about it. The minister added that it is even "taboo" but it "concerns too many children in our country".

According to a study of the International observatory of violence at school for Unicef, more than one child on ten has been bullied.
