Malta will introduce a civil unions bill and a bill to fight against discriminations based on sexual orientation in the Parliament.

During a press conference, Equality Minister Helena Dalli said this bill will allow a total recognition of same sex couples registered in a civil union since they will benefit from the same rights than straight married couples.

"We are people before we are straight, gay, black, white or red. We have to move towards a society that shuns discrimination and everyone enjoys rights to live a happy life," said Dalli.

Of course, LGBT activists do not despair of seeing a law allowing same-sex marriages but are delighted by this first stage.
