Poland To Introduce Civil Union Bill

Written by

Platforma Obywatelska (PO), a political party in Poland, will introduce a law which would allow civil unions for gay and lesbian couples.

This bill would give more equality (protections and responsibilities, inheritance, pension funds, notary, and medical rights). However, there will be no joint tax benefits and adoption rights.

The bill could become a law because the majority of the Parliament could vote in its favour.

Of course, there will be the conservatives' opposition who thinks that this law will harm the marriage.

This law would be a first step towards a recognition of the Polish LGBTQ community which, until now, does not even have a legal protection.

A similar law had already tried to pass in 2003 but had been blocked. However, the things change. Last year, Robert Biedro, openly gay, became a member of parliament and Anna Grodzka became the first transgender MP.
