Before leaving his place to the new elected president, the Conservative Portuguese president is opposed to the equal adoption bill that was passed by Parliament last December and which is supported by the Socialist Prime Minister Antonio Costa.
"It is important that such a big change on a sensitive social topic is not entered into force without a broad public debate," Cavaco Silva said in a statement.
This veto could be just a delay. The Socialist Party has announced its intention to go beyond the veto of the President and this seems possible because to do this, you must obtain an absolute majority in Parliament.
So we will follow this, hoping, of course, good news quickly enough.
