Romanian Deputies Rejected The Civil Unions Bill

Written by

The Juridicial Commission of Romania’s Chamber of Deputies rejected a bill which would have allowed the civil unions for same-sex couples and also for straight couples.

It had already been rejected for the first time by the Senate since almost all the senators voted against it (105-2), which amounts to saying that Romania is an extremely conservative country.

All is not lost, perhaps that Green Party MP Remus Cernea, who introduced this bill, will introduce it again directly during the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies but, considering the result of the first vote, there is unfortunately little hope.
