In Rome, all week was dubbed the Rainbow Week and was dedicated to the fight against homophobia in memory of a teenager who committed suicide after suffering from anti-gay bullying.

And on Thursday, the municipality of Rome celebrated for the first time civil unions for same-sex couples.

We had seen that the mayor of Rome had taken the decision to open civil unions for same-sex couples despite the fact that there is no legislation across the country.

Prime Minister Matteo Renzi urged officials to allow civil unions everywhere in Italy, but there are still many areas that don't want to do it.
