Slovenia Legalizes Marriage And Adoption For Same-Sex Couples

Written by

By a 51-28 vote, the Slovenian Parliament approved the law allowing same-sex couples to marry and adopt.

Three years ago, the same law was rejected in a referendum.

The opposition apparently tries to hold a new referendum on the law, but a law prohibiting any referendum on human rights issues has been voted in 2013, so this approach could not be validated.

Slovenia becomes the 11th country in the European Union to legalize marriage equality.
