In 2010, a petition was launched 'Same chances for all the families' which collected almost 20.000 signatures. Then this petition was given to the authorities.
The authorities decided to study it, they were not obliged to do it, and since yesterday, November 16th, 2011, the request to grant the right of adoption to gay and lesbian families could be added to the law and thus any adult person, whatever her civil status or her lifestyle, will be able to adopt a child or will be able to also adopt the child of her partner.
The commission of the legal affairs, which decided this change in the law, said that "the adoption can be the best solution for the wellbeing of the children who live in a gay family clearly structured."
"We are delighted that the commission (...) recognizes the reality of thousands of rainbow families and thus takes a first step towards a judicious legal solution," said Chatty Ecoffey, co-president of Familles Arc-En-Ciel.
But attention, it remains the vote.
In September 2011, the bill had been rejected by 97-83 and that could happen again even if, because of the support by the autorities, we could believe it will pass.
