At the annual conference of the Church last April, the issue of the celebration of same-sex marriages had been addressed without an agreement being reached.
On Monday, the decision was taken in favor of the opening of equal marriage within the Lutheran Church of Norway. Thus the text of the marriage will be modified to remove the words "bride" and "groom" in order to adapt to couples wanting to unite. This new policy will apply on Wednesday.
"I hope that all Churches in the world can be inspired by this new liturgy," said Gard Sandaker-Nilsen, a leader of the Open Public Church, which is the movement within the Lutheran Church that campaigned to change the rules.
