Malta celebrated the first year of its civil unions act with pedestrian crossings in the rainbow colors.

The Ministry and Transport Malta repainted two pedestrian crossings in the rainbow colours of the LGBT pride flag in Floriana and in Victoria.

«We want a society where everyone is free and equal, and we believe that there should not be restrictions on people's rights,» Civil Liberties Minister Helena Dalli said at a press conference.

As added The Independent, the initiative also forms part of the UN Human Rights Office's «Free and Equal» initiative in favour of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons.
