Budapest 2011 Pride Cancelled By The Police

Written by

The Budapest Pride festival has been cancelled by the police for this reason: it could disrupted the traffic of the city. (Wtf?)

Sandor Steigler, head of Rainbow Mission Foundation, told an associated press: “We suspect that the decision was politically motivated… a lot of things have happened in politics since the last march.”

The initial way had been changed. The march didn't have to be in front of the Parliament but had to stop just before.

LGBTQ representants envisaged to challenge this decision in front of a court.

We can note that the things are going worse in Hungary. The new constituion prohibits gay marriage, the latest Budapest prides were very framed by the police (as you can see on the picture).

In 2008, the police having used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the 1.500 people who came to demonstrate for gay rights.
