For the first time, the LGBTQ community of Cyprus gone on the streets of Nicosia to show its pride.

Saturday, between 3,000 and 4,000 people walked in the streets in spite of an attempt at preventing this walk by an Orthodox Christian group, mainly composed of priests and monks.

At present, same-sex relationships are not recognized but President Nicos Anastasiades promised a law which would allow the civil unions.

A bill which would criminalize acts and heinous behaviors based on sexual orientation was introduced in the parliament of Cyprus too.
