Since its first edition in 2008, the event has made Barcelona the international lesbian capital for the month of August.
In 2015, it gathered together almost 10,000 women, 65% of whom were from more than 20 countries abroad, like the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Portugal, Israel and Brazil. This year, the organization hopes to keep attendance as high.
The 6 days of Girlie Circuit Festival will make it the longest lesbian aimed festival in Europe. In 2016, its world party tour stopped in 15 cities, including London, Rome, Zurich, Lisbon and Madrid.
Europe’s biggest lesbian holiday & leisure event comes to Barcelona from 9th to 14th August.
The average attendee is a lesbian woman from 20 to 35 years old, with medium or medium-high purchasing power and a higher education.
ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL REVITALIZER
Girlie Circuit and Circuit Festival (its brother event, held simultaneously in Barcelona) result in an economic boost of more than 100 million euros, as the average expense per person each day is about 250 euros, including lodging, food, leisure, and various purchases. But it doesn’t only make Barcelona richer, as its participants tend to move around the region, mainly to local coastal areas close to the Catalan capital.
Even in countries with advanced LGTBI laws, many lesbians still face double discrimination because of being women and homosexuals. Also, they have to confront sexism and low visibility. Therefore, in addition to a recreational function, the Girlie Circuit Festival plays an important social role, offering them a safe and tolerant environment to enjoy their holidays while expanding their social circles.
The event carries out all its cultural and athletic activities in collaboration with various NGOs and organizations, which collect the revenue from these activities. That’s why, over the last few years, Girlie Circuit has also become a venue for minority and alternative talks for the general public thanks to its convening power.

Athletic events include both beach volleyball and football tournaments organized in collaboration with Panteres Grogues (the city LGTBI sports group), a workshop on female self-defense, a skating outing, paddle surfing, and spinning, yoga, and Zumba classes in the DiR clubs, which are sponsoring the event.

The workshops will focus on (healthy) lesbian affective relationships.
As for the seventh art, Circuit Festival will host movie forums about the films Tchindas and Víctor XX¸ which gather together the experiences of people with fluid gender (female in the former and male in the latter) in Africa and Spain, respectively.
Additionally, Texas Cinemas will offer a cinema cycle screening the films “Carol”, and “Blue Is the Warmest Color”.
LGTBI ROUTES THROUGH BARCELONA
One of last year’s surprises was the LGTBI route organized by Girlie Circuit Festival which brought together more than a hundred people wanting to get to know the Barcelona anecdotes about historical LGTBI figures.
This year, the festival will offer a route about “Lesbians and Trans People of Raval”, conducted by the journalists Carme Pollina and Thais Morales.
Socializing is one of the main reasons why the LGTBI community choose Barcelona for their holidays. Therefore, Girlie Circuit’s attendees will be able to participate in a "Speed Meeting"; an activity created to meet women from around the world in a fast, easy and fun way.
