Vietnam's First Gay Pride Parade Was Held In Hanoi

As stated by the Vietnamese Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong, it's time to legalize gay marriage (see our article: Will Vietnam Become The First Country To Legalize Gay Marriage In Asia?).

LGBT activists took the opportunity to organize the first Gay Pride in Hanoi during the last weekend.

About 100 people marched through the streets of the Vietnamese capital. As reported by AFP, activists said that they had modified the parade route after coming under pressure from police to avoid sensitive areas of the capital where anti-China demonstrations were taking place.

«We don't have permission for this and even if we had asked for official permission it would not have been possible,» Van Anh told the AFP news agency.

«But we have a lot of support from Vietnamese society. Many people told me they want to attend the parade,» she added.

It's great to see the LGBT Vietnamese people engage in the battle for equality and the organization of their first Gay Pride. I hope there will be more and more Gay Prides in the country.
