A member of the Pride Winnipeg Committee, Shandi Strong, said it was a great victory because last year they had already wanted to organize this Trans Pride in the city but they had been discriminated against and the event could not have taken place.
Also, the organizers waited for a little less than 100 people, but more than 400 people gathered to celebrate together their Pride.
"It was awesome, and it’s showing that we’re people," Strong said.
"We’re not just a label that has the word ‘trans’ in front of it.
"We are very diverse, amazing, powerful people and we need to have this kind of stuff showcased," they added.
Also, do not see in this Trans Pride the wish to separate the LGBTQ community because it is not the case. This is about shedding light on the transgender community that may still feel a little marginalized. It is simply the way to say "we are here, you must also think of us for the equality laws."
