A gay and lesbian group in Taiwan organized what they called the largest gay pride parade that never took place in Asia, with almost 30,000 people.

The organizers said that "tens of thousands who marched through Taipei on Saturday included supporters from China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand."

It was also a way to show potential support of the gay and lesbian community to election candidates because "they hoped to move gay and lesbian issues higher up the political agenda in five cities ahead of mayoral elections in less than a month's time."
