Violences For The First Gay Pride In Split, Croatia

Written by  E-Li

During a Gay Pride in the south of Croatia, several people were wounded.

10.000 people suddenly threw bottles and stones against 200 people, who walked to show their pride to be lgbt, in spite of the presence of the police.

Some people criticized the police to not have stopped this violence as Sanja Juras, member of Kontra, lesbian association: "The gathering of today in Split showed in Croatia the right to choose homosexuality is not ensured and there is no law".

"The police must absolutely render comprehensible discriminatory violence is a criminal offense and it will not be tolerated", underlined the official statement of Amnesty International, which invited Croatian authorities to act in order to prevent such incidents in the future.

In Croatia, 90% of the population is very catholic and the church publicly considers homosexuality as a "handicap" and a "perversion".

Only the official Gay Pride organized in Zagreb have no problems because of important protections. Why not in the other cities?
