The rights for transgender people are advancing in Greece. A new law allows them to legally change their gender with a simple declaration.

Before to introduce this law, trans people were still viewed to be mentally ill by Greek authorities. You can imagine the enormous advance that has taken place in this European country!

Also, they were required to undergo a psychiatric assessment if they were to undergo sex reassignment surgery.

In addition to conservative legislators, the Greek Orthodox Church decided to protest throughout the week by ringing church bells every day at noon for three minutes.

Thanks to this law that allows a legal change of gender, Greece is making a huge step forward the recognition of transgender people.
