Only 48% Of American Teenagers Identify As Straight

Written by

A new survey reveals that now only 48% of young Americans, aged between 13 and 20, regard themselves as "exclusively heterosexual".

Each participant in the survey had to choose the phrase that best described him, ranging from "exclusively heterosexual" to "exclusively homosexual".

Report's author J. Walter Thompson Innovation Group said that this meant that they were indicating they were bisexual to some degree.

Regarding the generation above, between 21 and 34, 65% of them identify as "exclusively heterosexual".

As for the identity, the same report also shows that 56% of the younger generation between 13 and 20 know someone who identifies with neutral pronouns which shows a genuine acceptance of transgender, genderqueer and intersex people. In the generation above, between 21 and 34, only slightly over two fifths are claiming the same thing.

Also over a third of young people answered they think gender do not define a person as much as it used to.

Despite the few years between the two generations, we see that there still is a huge change, a beautiful opening is done, but no matter which generation you are gone, this openness benefits everyone.
