In an interview with NPR, Beth confirmed the dissolution of the dance-punk band "The Gossip" and reassured her fans. She continues her career and it starts with this new album.
In "Fake Sugar", she returns to her Southern roots by tackling subjects like love, identity, and family with rock 'n' roll music.
"When I look back at all the Gossip records, I feel like all of them were somewhat about family," she says. "It's just one of those things that you deal with your whole life, isn't it, growing up? And then you start to realize that there are so many different kinds of families ... The way that family changes throughout your life, the way your relationship to family [changes] and the different kinds of family you have ... it just hits you like a brick."
"It was just a really sweet, very Southern memory that I think is so specific to where I grew up," she adds. "I feel like it was time to be like, 'You know what, that's what made me who I am and those are the really beautiful parts.' "
