Out singer and musician Bitch is back with “New Year”, a powerful women’s anthem

Written by

After 10 years of absence, out singer and musician Bitch presents “New Year”, a song advocating female empowerment. With this track, we can hear that the musical universe of the artist has evolved. Until then, we were used to her alt-folk duo Bitch and Animal, but today Bitch is back with a fun and catchy feminist anthem.

The story of this song started in a log cabin in Northern Michigan with a bass line banged out on a keytar that took shape with pounding rhythms and massive piano riffs, urgent beats, and an indelible melody.

“It was New Year’s Eve, and I was doing this ritual of writing down all the things I wanted to let go of," Bitch says. "I was ripping the pages out and throwing them into the fire, and that led to the first stanza: this idea of wanting to forgive everything that’s harmed me.”

That’s how Bitch created “New Year”, a song full of energy, power, and emotion.

“‘New Year’ is about empowerment," she states. "It’s about claiming who you are and letting go of patterns that no longer serve you.”

You can watch the music video below. This hymn to women features an all-female cast and a choreography from dance artist Megan Fowler-Hurst.

“New Year” is available on Spotify.
