Basketball player Angel McCoughtry came out as lesbian while confirming the discrimination she experienced in her former basketball team in Turkey.

This is via a picture of her and her girlfriend Elise Brande published on Instagram that she came out. But on the legend of this picture, one could also read this:

«Yes we been discriminated against! We lost friends ! Family members are upset! They said i disgraced my religion! One thing i do know is that LOVE is a great feeling!»

Indeed, at the beginning of the year, McCoughtry was fired by the Fenerbahce team, a basketball club located in Turkey, because she supposedly violated contractual agreements. In fact, it seems that club leaders were irked by the public party given by McCoughtry and Elise to celebrate their engagement. They have even asked the player to write a letter to deny her engagement while homosexual relationships are not forbidden in Turkey but that LGBT people are often harassed.

«My last overseas team threatened my job if i didnt write a fake letter on social media saying my relationship was a lie. But all i know, Love is a great feeling!» she wrote on Instagram.

McCoughtry now plays in the WNBA for the Atlanta Dream. She is also part of the US women's national team with which she won a gold medal during the London Olympics in 2012.
