The news came through today, Paris will host the Gay Games in 2018!

France pulls out all the stops to succeed confronted with London and Limerick (Ireland). It was impossible to feel the disappointment and the sadness France had already felt by losing the organization of the 2012 Olympic Games confronted with London again.

The former olympic champion of fencing Laura Flessel, godmother of the candidature, pushed this project with Sports Minister Valérie Fourneyron, a delegation of Paris and its regional council. This time, everyone was mobilized to carry this candidature as seriously as they could do it, like a candidature for the Olympic Games, and it didn't matter that media don't give a lot of coverage to the Gay Games, big sportsmen and sportswomen as well as the government supported the project since the beginning.

"Paris and France will be able to offer a great festival opened to all and without discrimination", Sport Minister said.

Paris' officials were pleased with this victory which "contributes to make Paris an opened city, respecting the tradition of a city with humanist, universal, sharing and freedom values".

The Gay Games were founded in 1982 by Tom Waddell and are at the same time a sporting and cultural event and also a fun moment full of tolerance.

Each Gay Games gather more than 10,000 competitors from all countries. Besides, any person can take part in the Gay Games, your sexual orientation and your athletic performances don't matter.

The Gay Games should take place from August 4th to August 12th, 2018.
