 JAMES F HANING II CANDIDATE

On Lezbelib, we are used to talk about politics. It is always important to know what's going on and to know a little bit people who represent us, no matter their gender.

Recently, Cathy, Cael and E-Li had the opportunity to interview James F. Haning II, an openly gay Candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in the 3rd Congressional District of Nevada.

We were interested in his ambitions and how he thought he could represent the LGBTQ community if he wins. Which are his projects? What will he fight for? We also approached the simple fact of being an openly gay candidate and what that implies.

Exploring Gender: Employment

ENDA

I found out this week that I get to keep my seasonal job. They moved me to part time.

I love this job for many reasons: I get to help people, answer questions, become more knowledgeable, and basically just have a job, which is always good.

One of my favorite things about this job though is the internal policy which bars discrimination of all kinds, including based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

I have written before about societal expectations and how they affect the way gender is interpreted. Now that I present as a male, though, what is expected of me has changed. I do not visibly reside outside the lines of normal anymore, so I must think about what society wants to require of me as a male.

Written and directed by Celine Sciamma, Tomboy, a French film, introduces the child Mickael and follows him as he navigates relationships with other kids and his family. When his family moves to a new neighborhood, he is given the opportunity to start over and to be himself with his new friends. As the story progresses, Mickael works through his need to express his gender identity and how to navigate around the limitations of his body and hiding who he is on different levels.
