That is not usual but a governor calls the legislators to send him the bill legalizing marriage for same-sex couples so that he affixes his signature to it.
Back in Illinois where yesterday the president of the Senate stated that he would like to pass marriage equality on Valentine's Day. This wish could come true, Illinois Senate committee had to vote on the bill before a vote of the full senate and good news, the committee approved the bill 9-5.
A bill used to modify the constitution of Illinois in order to ban the marriage equality was apparently stopped, LGBT activists say.
From his facebook page, the Representative of State, Greg Harris, announced that “Governor Pat Quinn will sign the Civil Union Law on Monday, January 31. The signing ceremony will be in the afternoon in the Chicago Loop, and open to the public. Details will be announced early next week."
