Lesbian drama "Desert Hearts" to return

The 1986 lesbian drama "Desert Hearts" will return to offer a new version.

"Desert Hearts" was one of the very first lesbian movies and became a classic. Directed by Donna Deitch and adapted from the novel "Desert Hearts" by Canadian lesbian writer Jane Rule, this movie starred Helen Shaver and Patricia Charbonneau.

In 1986, in most of the world, homosexuality was still a crime. Indeed, it is really from this year that homosexuality was no longer illegal in the United States. "Desert Hearts" has brought a lot of visibility to lesbian women. It was, therefore, a big challenge to produce, it was an independent film.

The story takes place in 1959 in a ranch in Reno, Nevada where Vivian (Helen Shaver) takes refuge to escape her divorce. She meets the daughter of the owner, Cay (Patricia Charbonneau), who lives freely her lesbian life. They get closer and fall in love with each other. One will remember in particular the passionate first kiss and the very erotic love scene.

We don't have a lot of details yet. However, we already know that it will be directed by Donna Deitch again. She is currently raising the necessary funds for production.
