For the first time, actresses Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan will play together in a lesbian romance called “Ammonite”.

The story of this historical drama takes place in the 1820s in a UK coastal town. It is inspired by the life of fossil hunter Mary Anning, especially when she develops an intense relationship with a young woman sent to convalesce by the sea.

Anning is a paleontologist* known for making significant scientific discoveries of Jurassic*** marine fossils** in the English Channel cliffs.

This lesbian romance was written by screenwriter and director Francis Lee, who wrote and directed “God’s Own Country”, a gay romantic drama.

Filming of "Ammonite" will begin in March 2019.
