"Happiest Season" follows a woman who plans to propose her fiancée on Christmas vacations while visiting her family in the south, but she discovers that her partner hasn’t come out to her conservative parents.
Nothing is signed yet but Kristen Stewart should play one of the two main roles. The rest of the cast is unknown.
Lesbian actress, screenwriter and director Clea DuVall (But I’m a Cheerleader, Argo, The Intervention) and her writing partner, comedian and actress Mary Holland (Veep and New Girl), wrote the screenplay. "Happiest Season" will also be Duvall’s major studio directorial debut.
“Happiest Season is a refreshingly modern comedy about the complexity of navigating romantic relationships and family dynamics,” Hannah Minghella, president of TriStar Pictures, told Variety. “Clea and Mary have written a hilarious and heart-warming movie full of emotional truth that is sure to become a holiday classic.”
“In Happiest Season, Clea and Mary have come up with a brilliant twist on the Christmas comedy that is laugh-out-loud funny and deeply moving,” added producer Marty Bowen.
This year, Kristen Stewart and Chloe Sevigny were starring in a lesbian movie called “Lizzie”, an autobiographical film about Lizzie Borden.
Steward is shooting the restart of “Charlie’s Angels,” she will appear in the political thriller “Against All Enemies” and in the adventure film “Underwater” with Vincent Cassel and Jessica Henwick.
With "Happiest Season", Kristen Stewart, Clea Duvall, and Mary Holland will bring some originality in Christmas movies.
